FRIDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2011
LAW SOCIETY OF IRELAND
(6 Hours CPD Management and Professional Skills)
Legal IT are very proud to sponsor this years event brought to you by the The Institute of Legal Accountants of Ireland. The ILAI have put together a world class conference (Law Society of Ireland, Friday 9th September) which brings together the leaders in their respective fields in predicting the path that legal services will follow in the coming years. The theme of the conference is “The Future of Legal Services”.
The headline speaker is Professor Richard Susskind OBE. Richard is the guru of legal technology and visionary predictions for the future of the legal profession worldwide.
Richard will speak about the drivers of change in the legal sector – the demand for ‘more for less’, the shift toward the commoditisation of legal service, the growing impact of information technology, and the liberalisation of the legal market. He will argue that one key to the future is to decompose legal work into its constituent parts and to source each part in the most efficient way. He will speak about the growing impact of legal process outsourcing, the use of agency lawyers, the role of paralegals, and the systematisation of routine and repetitive legal work. For solicitors who are willing to adapt, he will claim that the future holds exciting new professional and commercial opportunities.
Jim Power Economist.
Jim is well known to us all from highly informative and engaging commentary through the Irish media and is in very high demand given the current state of our economy. Jim’s presentation will focus on the Irish economy and its financial system which is currently going through a period of unprecedented flux and change. When normality returns, the Irish economic and financial landscape will look very different. Business levels will be lower than in the past, regulation will be intense, and transparency and accountability will dominate the landscape. For legal practitioners the world will be very different - it is time for legal firms to think about the new landscape and to plan for survival.
Ivan Gomez, Senior Director Microsoft Europe
Ivan is the Senior Director for Online Services in Microsoft’s European Operations Centre. He leads an organisation whose responsibility it is to launch and manage subscriptions for new Cloud Computing offerings. Microsoft Ireland believe that concentrated and swift efforts by Ireland to invest and promote cloud computing will improve Ireland’s competitiveness and return the economy to growth.
Ivan will be discussing Cloud Computing, Microsoft offerings today and the benefits and challenges of going into cloud.
Ian O’Flaherty of Saurian Litigation Support.
Ian is based in Miami, Florida and has successfully designed, developed and brought to market the leading trial presentation and legal file management app for iPad “TrialPad”.
